My stretch of 5 nights is done. Thank goodness. It was one of those stretches of work that I didn’t think was ever going to end! We were so busy, at over-capacity (meaning we had more patients than beds…), and I was just wiped by the end of it! Overall, I really don’t mind nights. But they can literally turn your life upside down! You do not want to see the condition of my house right now… Between the nights, then trying to catch up and back to ‘normal’, it’s been neglected… Again…
So now I’ve had time to recuperate, just in time to do it again… Ok, this time will not be as bad at all. I made a swap with another lady at work (we’ll call this the surprise swap of the decade, because I DID NOT think she would go for it), so all I have to work is Friday night… She’s taking my Saturday & Sunday nights, and I’m going to work Monday-Wednesday days for her. Yay! I really wanted this weekend off as one of my best friends from nursing is having her baby shower on Saturday, then a girl from work is having a unit Christmas party that evening! Again, I didn’t think that I was going to actually get the nights off, so it makes this weekend just that much better
As for my half-marathon training and fitness – I’ve been maintaining. After learning my lesson from training my legs way too hard, I finally recovered, and I’ve been back at it. I have a nicely made up running schedule, and I do use it for guidance, but as we all know… Life just gets in the way sometimes. I don’t think I’ve run many of my planned runs on the actual planned day… But as of right now, I’ve only missed 1 run so far! So this makes me happy. I’ve continued to lift weights after each run, and with each session I’m just enjoying it more and more!
Where my scheduled runs are posted, the time is the suggested pace/km (from Runner’s World Smart Coach). My pace has usually been between 6:15-6:45/km on my easy runs so far. The red is my actual runs.
I’ve been trying to put a lot of focus on my upper body with my workouts. I have leg muscle, and a lot of it… Growing up playing so many sports, especially the skating ones of hockey and ringette, I’ve never had a problem in that area! Now, I’m not saying that I haven’t lost some strength, and that I’m going to ignore my walking sticks completely… No. I just think that my upper body is weaker and definitely needs more work when it comes to strength and toning. And… I’ve actually been enjoying my upper body workouts! Yay!
So that’s about it for my quick little update. It’s after 1am, and I’m wide awake… But my brain is just not in the blog writing zone… Maybe tomorrow.
Goodnight!
